About Me
dddesignco is run by myself, Dominique, a WAHM (Work At Home Mum) to Miss Maisie my daughter (pictured on the right). We are expecting baby #2 - a boy - in August. I love music, I love singing (though I don't get to do much these days). I love all things Japanese & kawaii. I have an unhealthy obsession with Gwen Stefani's 'Harajuku Lovers' line and beautiful shoes I would never get to wear. I also love a good Sauvignon Blanc & white chocolate vodkatini (when I'm not pregnant obviously!!)...
Before having my daughter, I was working as a Client Communications Manager at Galileo Kaleidoscope, a boutique market research & brand development company. My role was largely Desktop Publishing and making the researchers look good in front of the clients - well, making their presentations look good anyway! I also worked on the website redesign process, helped out on reception as well as numerous other things. Prior to that role, I had been an Account Coordinator at GalKal. This entailed recruitment & coordination of research groups in Australia and overseas. Suffice to say it honed my organisational skills beautifully.
Before GalKal I had been around the traps as a web designer, email marketing person, DTP etc. I spent a few years at MLC where I started out in customer service before making a dash for web design & management. I am self taught with everything I have done and absolutely love the work I do. I have the best of both worlds right now - spending time with my darling girl and keeping myself challenged with new and exciting work all the time.
I spend a lot of time working with my long time best friend, the very talented photographer & proprietor of Dollface Productions, Kate Sheppard. Through her I have picked up a lot of photo editing work and experience and an awful lot of wonderful photos of my daughter! She is a truly gifted artist, please go and have a look at her work. If you ever need a photographer for just about anything, it would be hard to go past her. In addition to being talented, she's also a really great person and always happy to discuss ideas.
These days I prefer small to medium projects. I'm game for anything within my skillset. If something isn't within my skillset, I invariably know someone else who can help! I do a lot of logo work, photo editing and the occasional wedding invitation. For a more complete list of what services I offer, please visit the Services & Rates page.
I have recently begun a small offshoot of the company called UrbanGeisha. Basically I made a few funky 'kanzashi' flower clips for myself and everyone loved them so much I've ended up making dozens of them! It's great fun and I hope to branch out a bit and make some other Japanese inspired accessories soon. You can read more about UrbanGeisha and my designs at the UrbanGeisha site. They can also be purchased at Minicuteture, which is currently the exclusive distributor of my pieces. I hope to spend more time on this side of the company as working with textiles is a newfound love of mine, though my obsession with Japan and it's culture goes WAY back! All of the materials I use are authentic and predominantly ordered direct from Japan. My methods are as traditional as possible, though I admit to occasionally lapsing and pulling out the hot glue gun!
I live in the inner west of Sydney with my husband (who is a high level IT geek), our daughter Maisie, our beloved shaggy shihtzu and our very self sufficient little cat. I am a modern cloth nappy obsessed, baby wearing, eco friendly crunchy mama! I spend a lot of time chatting with the lovely ladies on Nappies Australia forums. There are a lot of talented mamas over there, so go check it out!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions! I'd love to hear from you! |
